How it works
From your power bill to an activated system
Six steps. Some are ours, some are your installation partner's, and some belong to your utility and your city — we are clear about which is which.
The six steps
Where each step sits, and who owns it
Select a step to see what it involves and what it rests on. Later steps are answered by what the earlier ones find — which is why we do not put a date on any of them.
01 · You
Share your recent power bill
Your bill shows your usage, your rate, and your utility. It is the one document that turns a general conversation into a specific one. A full year is ideal, because usage moves with the season.
What this step rests on
- Having a recent bill, or access to your utility's online account
- Whether the period you send is typical of your usage across the year
02 · Us
We review your property and energy usage
Roof orientation, available area, shading, and the shape of your consumption. This is where we find out whether solar is a good fit for your property at all.
What this step rests on
- What step one actually shows about your usage and your rate
- Roof condition, orientation, and what shades it during the day
- Your utility's rate structure and interconnection rules
03 · Together
Compare the available solar options
Cash, loan, lease, and PPA side by side, with the trade-offs stated plainly — including the ones that do not favour a sale. Battery storage is considered here if it is relevant to your goals.
What this step rests on
- Which pathways the provider makes available for your property
- What the property review in step two concluded
- What you want to achieve, and how long you expect to stay
04 · Us
Receive a personalized proposal
A proposal built around your property, with the assumptions written down so you can check them. If a number depends on something uncertain, the proposal says so.
What this step rests on
- The pathway or pathways you asked to see in detail
- Assumptions that have not yet been confirmed on site
- Provider terms and program availability at the time it is prepared
05 · Installation partner
Site survey and final design
A qualified partner visits, confirms the roof structure and electrical service, and finalises the design. Findings here can change the proposal — that is the point of doing it.
What this step rests on
- Physical findings, which can differ from the desk review
- Capacity of your existing electrical service
- Partner scheduling, which we do not control
06 · Installation partner and authorities
Permitting, installation, and activation
Your installation partner handles permits, installation, inspection, and utility interconnection. Permitting and interconnection timelines are set by your city and your utility.
What this step rests on
- Permitting and inspection schedules set by your city
- Utility interconnection queues and permission to operate
- Equipment availability and installer scheduling
About timelines
We do not publish a schedule, because we do not control most of it. Permitting authorities, utility interconnection queues, financing approval, equipment availability, and installer scheduling all affect it, and they vary by area and by season. What we will do is tell you what stage you are at and what is actually outstanding.
Process questions
Frequently asked questions
How long does each step take?
The parts we control — reviewing your bill and preparing a comparison — are usually the quickest. The site survey depends on partner scheduling. Permitting and utility interconnection are the least predictable and are set by your city and utility, not by us.
What happens if the site survey changes things?
It sometimes does, and that is what a survey is for. If the roof structure, electrical service, or shading turns out different from the desk review, the design and the numbers change. You see the revised version before anything proceeds.
Am I committed once I get a proposal?
No. A proposal is information. Nothing is committed until you sign an agreement with a provider or installer, and that is a separate, deliberate step.
